HaDerech
Youth Ministry & Fellowship
Ohev Yisrael’s youth group, meets three Saturday evenings a month. During the meetings the youth are involved in deep discussion of G-d’s Word, worship, and fellowship with one another. They are also challenged weekly to stand out of the crowd and shine the light of Yeshua to the world. Some of our activities include: outreaches, missions trips, special events (such as snow tubing, movie outings, and separate girl’s and guy’s nights), and youth conferences. We are dedicated to helping our youth grow into strong men and women in the L-rd.
Acquire the Fire. This year’s event in Baltimore is April 27-29. The theme for ATF this year is “Normal’s Not Enough” – a challenge to young people to live as Yeshua called us, and “discover together just how shockingly un-normal we were meant to be” (http://www.acquirethefire.
Hi HaDerech family!
The 6 of us who ventured down to Richmond last Saturday had a great time reconnecting with our friends from Rockbridge. We enjoyed the time of fellowship and worship hosted by Tikvat Israel’s youth & young adults. There were also large groups from Beth Messiah in Norfolk and Zion’s Sake in Newport News, making the gathering a complete success! This is the first of what we hope will be regular occasions for young people from our regional Messianic Jewish congregations to gather at different synagogues. The next gathering will be at Zion’s Sake on Saturday, May 19th. We’ll let you know the details as soon as we get them!
The next event on our calendar is something new: a Passover Seder demonstration at a Korean-American church in Fairfax on Sunday, April 1. The church has invited Rabbi Michael to present a Messianic Seder, and since the audience will include their youth group of about 90 members, he has asked that our teens join him in this ministry. And of course parents are welcome also! This is an excellent opportunity to reach out to our brethren in the church with the full story of Yeshua’s fulfillment of Pesach. The Seder will be participatory, but will not include a meal. Those who are interested should contact Jonathan and Melinda Dade. The time and place are Sunday, April 1, 12:00-1:30, at Light Global Mission Church, 3901 Fair Ridge Drive, Fairfax, VA 22033.
We are a little over one month away from Acquire the Fire! ATF will be Friday, April 27, to Sunday, April 29 at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore. We will leave from Ohev at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, and return about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The total cost for the conference and hotel is $120. Everyone will need to bring another $30 for two meals out, and any additional spending money you decide is appropriate.
Since we now have 8 people committed, and have only 20 tickets reserved, please tell us by March 31st who is coming so we will know whether to reserve more tickets and hotel rooms. We will need payment by April 14th. If you write a check, please make it to Ohev Yisrael and designate it for “ATF”. If anyone needs help with the cost of the trip, please talk to any of the youth leaders.
That’s our HaDerech news for today!
